Marvel’s latest, and perhaps strangest, MCU entry is here! The animated anthology series What If…? made its premiere on Disney+ with its debut episode focusing on Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter. What If…? presents standalone stories depicting the Marvel Cinematic Universe if something else happened in the established canon than what was depicted in the films. The first episode shows what would have happened if the super-soldier experiment on Steve Rogers failed and he never became Captain America. Peggy Carter takes his place instead and becomes Captain Carter.Continue reading Marvel’s “What If…?” Episode One Spoiler Free Review

A little later than expected, but Seth and Train are back to talk the Marvel Phase Four announcements from this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
We speculated in our last episode on what Marvel might be doing for Phase Four of the Cinematic Universe. After a bunch of reveals at San Diego Comic-Con, we now have the full lineup for the next two years.
It is worth noting that only films slated for 2020 and 2021 were announced. There were no definite indications of theatrical releases for 2022. The possibilities of Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, and Avengers 5 are still very strong.
For each of the announced movies or series, we’ll give our main speculation points and pair them up with what was confirmed during the Hall H presentation.
Confirmed: Pugh will be Yelena Belova, David Harbour will be Alexi Shostakov aka Red Guardian, the Russian equivalent of Captain America.
New Speculation: Yelena Belova may be Taskmaster instead of Crimson Widow
Confirmed: Several roles were announced, none of which were Thanos or Warlock. It will take place on Earth, and Kevin Feige described it as “full-on Jack Kirby“.
- Angelina Jolie as Thena
- Richard Madden as Ikaris
- Kumail Nanjani as Kingo
- Salma Hayek as Ajak
- Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos
- Dong-Seok Ma as Gilgamesh
- Lia McHugh as Sprite
- Lauren Ridloff as Makkari
New Speculation: Nobody will care that Ajak and Makkari have been gender-swapped.
Confirmed: Mandarin is the villain
Further Speculation: Since the Ten Rings were teased way back in the first Iron Man, this may take place over a period of time. There could be an explanation as to why Ben Kingsley played an imposter Mandarin.
Speculation: The show will be standalone and not directly tied to the rest of the MCU, and Baron Zemo will be the villain
Confirmed: Will not be standalone, and will be part of Phase Four. Baron Zemo is the villain and will have the mask.
Speculation: Will take place before Vision’s death in Infinity War.
Confirmed: Takes place in current time, so maybe Captain America was able to revive Vision in his post-Endgame quest. Monica Rambeau is in the show, perhaps to become a new Captain Marvel or Miss Marvel.
Speculation: Possible origin story or another story from the past. Loki’s escape during Endgame could play a factor.
Confirmed: Takes place after Loki’s escape in Avengers: Endgame. This will be the classic evil Loki and not the sympathetic character he became in Phase Three.
Speculation: Dr. Strange will be one of the focal points of the MCU on par with how Iron Man was for the first three phases.
Confirmed: Scarlet Witch will be in the film, so it may tie in with the WandaVision series.
Speculation: Could be directly related to Guardians of the Galaxy 3 given the styles of directors James Gunn and Taiki Watiti. Plus Thor left with the Guardians to close out Endgame.
Current Speculation: Thor himself will be a supporting role, and it could still tie into Guardians 3
1:01:05 – Hawkeye (Fall 2021)
Speculation: Clint is back to adventuring now that his family is safe. We may see Kate Bishop.
Confirmed: Kate Bishop will be major part of the show
1:13:00 – X-Men and Deadpool (Phase Five?)
Marvel did not outright say any immediate future of the X-Men franchise, including Deadpool. But it seems like X-Men may wait a few years and get rebranded for Phase Five.
Unless you’ve been living in The Negative Zone for the last few weeks, you’ve heard dozens of fan theories regarding how Avengers: Endgame concluded the way it did, with some major players seemingly written out of The MCU. One of the most popular theories regards the fate of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.
In the film’s epilogue, Cap sets out to return all the Infinity Stones and Mjolnir (Thor’s famous hammer) to their proper places in the timeline. However, when he’s done, Cap doesn’t return home like originally planned. He decides to return to post-WWII New York and spend the rest of his life with his first love, Peggy Carter.
We learned in Captain America: Winter Soldier that Peggy Carter did marry and have children after WWII. She said that Cap saved her future husband during the events of the first film, but her husband was never named nor shown.
So that begs the question: Who was Mr. Peggy Carter after all?
In the short lived Agent Carter TV series, Peggy did have a romantic relationship with agent Daniel Sousa. Some have speculated that Sousa was the man in question, given Peggy had finally accepted the loss of Steve when she threw away his blood sample that could have been used to make more super soldiers.
What many fans have proposed is that Peggy’s future husband was none other than Steve Rogers himself! After accomplishing his tasks and returning home, Steve Rogers simply lived a sheltered life, while his wife went on to become a founding member of SHIELD. After all, he knows the world is in good hands for the next 80 years. Plus, it puts closure on Cap’s story for the past decade.
Fortunately, Avengers: Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have stepped up to give fans the real story when asked by The Hollywood Reporter and their readers.
It was always our intention that he was the father of those two children. But again, there are time travel loopholes for that-Stephen McFeely via Hollywood Reporter
That does seem to confirm the theory of Peggy and Steve getting their happy ending.
The Russo Brothers, who co-directed Infinity War and Endgame, have a different answer.
“They exist in a different timeline.”Anthony Russo via Hollywood Reporter
So which is it? Could there be such a creative difference between story writers and storytellers? Did Steve Rogers live out the rest of his life with Peggy? Or could this just be fanning the fanboy flames to keep discussion going about whether Back To The Future was right or not?
Marvel has done it again with the highly anticipated Defenders Trailer, which unites all the existing Netflix Series characters. Does this live up to expectations? And what can we expect from Sigourney Weaver
Not to be outdone, Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for June’s Wonder Woman.
Also, hear the swag gotten at Free Comic Book Day, plus Seth gives a review of the first two issues of Marvel’s Secret Empire.
In the latter half of the show, Crazy Train joins the show to give a thorough (that meas SPOILERS) review of the latest MCU blockbuster Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. The action, the humor, the soundtrack, Michael Rooker’s awesomeness… all this and more in another fun filled Geekville Radio
