Geekville Radio: Spider-Man & Justice League Trailers, Heroes & Villains FanFest

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Sony unveiled the second Spider-Man trailer. This new trailer gives us more of a look at the plot, plus a peek at the role Tony Stark plays in Spidey’s life. Not only that wee see more of Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture.

Not to be outdone, Warner Bros released the newest Justice League trailers which gives us Aquaman, Parademons, and Commissioner Gordon

In Netflix news, Iron Fist has become the second most watched Marvel Netflix to date. Only Luke Cage has more impressions.

“The analytics firm calculates the series earned 63.2 million ‘demand expressions’ in its first three days – that’s less than the 69 million of “Luke Cage” but ahead of both “Jessica Jones” (51m) and “Daredevil” (23m).”

In Star Wars news, the Last Jedi trailer will be released on April 14th, during Star Wars Celebration. Also, in what may be a major curve ball to fans, Han Solo’s real name may not be Han Solo.

“Iger revealed that the film, “picks up with Han Solo when he was 18 years old and takes him through when he was 24. There are a few significant things that happen in Han Solo’s life, like acquiring a certain vehicle and meeting a certain Wookiee that will happen in this film. But you will also discover how he got his name.””

Over in the Arrowverse, Season 5 villain Vigilante’s alter ego is somebody we already know. However, we may not find out who he (she?) is until Season 6.

We know who it is, but we were kind of intrigued by the idea of having a mystery that led into the next season,” Guggenheim told us at Paleyfest 2017. “We were excited at the prospect of just letting this play out for a little while longer, and it gives us something cool to do in Season 6.”

The second half of the show, Seth and Crazy Train talk more major plot reveals in the Arrowverse TV Shows, including the highly anticipated Supergirl/Flash Musical, the return of Captain Cold to Legends Of Tommorow, and Prometheus’s effect on Ollie’s psyche.

The Arrowverse talk does not end there, as Seth talks the Heroes & Villains FanFest, which had appearances by Stephen Amell, John Barrowman, David Ramsey, Charlotte Ross, Katie Cassidy, Willa Holland, Echo Kellum, Katrina Law, Robbie Amell, Caty Lotz, Brandon Routh, and Neal McDounough. If you’re a fan of any Arrow show, this is the stuff for you!

On top of that, there was an Agents Of SHIELD panel with Chloe Bennett and Brett Dalton.

Geekville Radio: X-Men TV Show, Return Of The Arrowverse, RIP John Hurt

It’s a news packed week at The Geekville Radio Studio. Seth and Crazy Train are back to cover the major stories, as well as the return of the Arrowverse to TV.

First up, Fox has ordered a X-Men TV series that will be in continuity with the movie franchise, much like Disney has with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only that, Bryan Singer himself has been tapped to direct the pilot episode.

“The still untitled X-Men TV series will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. The series will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling physical production.”

However, the series will not coincide with FX’s Legion TV series.

Speaking of Legion, Hollywood Reporter sums up their review of the show as “Lock yourself in a rubber room and binge”.

In DC News, Deadline reports that Ben Affleck will not be directing his standalone Batman film after all. Affleck cites the double duty being too great to allow the best of both worlds.

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

Over in the Doctor Who universe, Peter Capaldi confirmed that Series 10 of the revived show will be his last.

The middle part of the show reviews the mid-season return of the entire “Arrowverse”. Supergirl, Flash, Legends Of Tomorrow, and Arrow all made their premieres last week, and all four shows hit the ground running. Hear thoughts on Kevin Smith’s Supergirl directorial debut, Flash’s next chapter about changing the future, Legends Of Tomorrow with George Lucas, and the reveal of Laurel and Talia in Arrow.

In the final segment of the show, Seth and Train pay tribute to the legendary actor Sir John Hurt. The resume this man had fills just about any element of Geekery you could imagine.

In the news, Woody Harrelson is in talks to play a mentor to Alden Ehrenreich’s young Han Solo in the as yet untitled anthology film. Is this a fitting cast? And what can we expect from a Han and Lando team-up?

Also Star Wars related, Princess/General Leia Organa was supposed to have a larger role in Episode IX. Now producers are meeting to decide what should be done with the character. Could we see a recast? A CGI motion capture a la Grand Moff Tarkin?

In TV News, all four DC “Arrowverse” shows have been renewed by CW. On top of that, Constantine has been picked up as an animated series for CW Seed. Can Matt Ryan’s incarnation of the character survive in animated form?

To cap off the news, the villain for the Flash/Supergirl musical crossover has been revealed to be Music Meister. Could we see Neil Patrick Harris return to the role in a live action capacity?
